The Feast of the Sacred Heart

Our Parish’s Feast Day

On Thursday, June 17th at 7:30 p.m. our parish will celebrate Evening Prayer on the vigil of The Feast of the Sacred Heart. Our feast day is a special time to come together in prayer, thanksgiving, and fellowship to celebrate the Spirit’s unpredictable and renewing action in our common life.

This has been a year of great accomplishments in our parish: the dedication of the William Meyer Wing of our Parish School, the work of evangelization carried out by our support of the parish school, our burgeoning Families in Service Group, the top-notch religious education program including first-communion, confirmation, reconciliation, and new programs for our high school youth, our fruitful relationship with our sister parish in Belize, a renewed young adult fellowship group, growth and ongoing catechesis in areas of Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Altar Servers and Hospitality Ministers, a new emphasis on the Liturgy of the Hours during the liturgical year, the naming of our Pastor as a Monsignor, the new presence of Sister Joan on our parish staff, the continued excellence of our parish choir, cantors, and music ministry, our great Art and Environment team, our RCIA team, catechists, ministers to the sick and bereaved, and our lively and spirit-filled liturgical life...Ah the list is extensive if not exhaustive.

We have so much to celebrate and so much to give thanks for. We also have much to pray about, the world situation, the war in Iraq, homicide, violence, human rights, the creation of safe environments to stop child abuse, and the deep and profound spiritual needs of each one of us here at the Shrine. These are all reasons to come together to speak with God in prayer and song, to share our deepest concerns and needs.

So, please join us for some spirit filled prayer on the vigil of our feast day to celebrate God’s blessings and to pray for the Holy Spirit to help us to make our parish a center of prayer, praise, and action for the Kingdom of God. Bring a friend to experience how the Shrine prays the evening prayer of the church and come ready to celebrate and give thanks. Of course, in the Shrine tradition, there will be good food to follow. See you then.
